Community Involvement

Growing up in a working class neighborhood, Maria always finds way to give back to her community by giving the gift of laughter through charitable performances and MC’ing nonprofit events. Her heart reaches out to the youth of our nation through numerous after school programs promoting young imaginations through safe creative outlets. Costa also finds ways to help those who are less fortunate in her contributions to a multitude of nonprofit organizations. 

 
 
CHIRLA: Maria was the Master of Ceremonies at the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles 2007 Awards Gala honoring Salma Hayek and provided a four night benefit performance of Macho Men.
       
         
       
NCLR: Maria was a panelist at the 2006 National Council of La Raza Latina Brunch and has also headlined with Paul Rodriquez at the NCLR Conference Comedy Night.
     
         
    NALIP: Maria was Mistress of Ceremonies for the 2006 National Association of Latino Independent Producers Awards Gala and delighted top industry executives with hilarious stand-up and quirky characters in their conference luncheons.
                 
     
LATWF: The Los Angeles Women’s Theater Festival honored Maria and her Macho with their prestigious 2006 Maverick Award
   
                 
    GLAAD: Maria provides a platform of acceptance and understanding for the gay and lesbian community, Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, through her positive portrayal of a transgendered woman.        
          CAAM: California African American Art Museum – Maria headlined at CAAM’s Tribute to Celia Cruz with a performance of 'Macho Men'.        
           
                   
     
A PLACE CALLED HOME: Another recent addition, Maria has set up monthly Cuban Salsa classes in an effort to unite Latino and African-American teens.
