The Foundation recognized her commitment to contributing to Latino and Afro-Latino audiences and granted Maria with funds to write, produce and perform new media and theater works that represent the Latino community in Detroit, as well as to bring her existing projects which have toured worldwide to Michigan. Through the fellowship and via her production company, Oro Entertainment, Maria wrote, produced and premiered new film/media projects, drawing large and diverse sold out audiences from around in the city.

Maria also debuted her original theatrical works in some Detroit's most  renowned venues and introduced the city's Latino talent to other markets through her tours. "The support from Kresge Arts in Detroit has provided me with the opportunity to  expand my body of work and to most of all make a difference in my community. My intention is to inspire and unite people through laughter and creativity. It was amazing to see Latinos, African Americans and main stream audiences from various social and economic backgrounds, laugh, dance and celebrate the beauty of our culture."
