The National publication, Unrivaled Magazine, a multi-cultural digital and print platform interviewed Maria on her upcoming comedy special to film live on May 19th!

 

What can we expect from your upcoming comedy concert special “Shades of Machos?”

 

I called the show “Shades of Machos” because of the subject matter and because in this show I talk about what machismo looks like in the Latino, Black and White communities verses my last show which focused on Latin machos. I’m taking on a number of new topics considering there is so much happening in our country and in the world today.... I use comedy to tackle the topics that can seem serious at first... like women’s issues from my perspective as a career women who was raised in a traditional family and what feminism looks like for me. I’m modern but yet domestic women in many ways as well.

Maria Costa is set to receive a Star on the Motown Walk of Fame along side Aretha Franklin, Eminem, Tim Allan and producer, Jerry Bruckheimer. Detroit is poised to have a Motown Walk to Fame to rival its west coast Hollywood namesake. The names of 100 honorees, to be honored with their own red granite pavers, were announced in a ceremony at the Virgil Carr Center in the city’s Harmonie Park district. Enshrined in history forever are well known names, Rosa Parks and others who have shaped the lives of Detroiters and the country such as comedian David Alan Grier, will also be honored.

In light of the recent, disturbing events in Orlando, the Gay Men's Chior of Los Angeles dedicated their summer concert, Oye Mi Canto (Hear My Song), to the lives that were tragically lost and the voices that will no longer be heard. Oye Mi Canto (Hear My Song), features the driving rhythms and captivating melodies from the island nation that have inspired passion in hearts around the world. Audiences enjoyed the rich sounds of the salsa, mambo and Afro-Cuban jazz in a truly historic performance.

 

Maria performed with Oye Mi Canto and brought her Afro-Cuban dances as well as traditions to the stage. Maria says, "It was my honor and pleasure to be part of such an amazing show and to have the opportunity to work with GMCLA at such a critical time."
